Inaugural concert of the new Festspielhaus

The new Festspielhaus had commissioned a programme from this orchestra to demonstrate, from its first concert, that Baden-Baden intended to reach out artistically to the world and to welcome the best of the world’s artists to its stage.

The programme chosen by Solti was designed to display, once again, the quality and brilliance of the somewhat larger (85 players, 51 orchestras, 25 countries) World Orchestra for Peace - and concluded with Brahms, a composer who spent much of his holiday and composing time in Baden-Baden.
