Celebrations of St Petersburg’s 300th anniversary

Within minutes of coming off the podium at the Royal Albert Hall London Prom, Valery Gergiev had asked Charles Kaye to reassemble the orchestra in Russia for two concerts to mark ‘Peace Day’, the annual public holiday which commemorates the end of the Second World War. The concerts coincided with the opening of the 11th 'Stars of the White Nights' Festival which, in 2003, also celebrated St Petersburg’s 300th anniversary, and the final concert of Moscow’s Easter Festival.
